Swing Gate Motor Installation Cost (Brisbane, Logan & Gold Coast): What Changes the Price
If you're considering swing gate automation for your Brisbane, Logan, or Gold Coast property, the first question is usually: how much will it cost? The honest answer: it depends on your gate, your power setup, and your site conditions.
Below is a practical guide to typical pricing in our service area, what's included, and the main things that change the final quote.
Quick Price Range
Here's what swing gate motor installation typically costs in Brisbane, Logan & Gold Coast, and what affects the final quote.
Typical supply + install pricing (inc GST):
| Setup | Typical cost range (inc GST) |
|---|---|
| Swing gate motor supply & install — single leaf | From $1,995 |
| Swing gate motor supply & install — double leaf | From $2,450 |
| Solar swing gate automation | $1,500–$5,000 (site-dependent) |
Exact price depends on your gate weight, hinge condition, slope, access, and whether you're running mains power or solar. We'll confirm after a site check (or from photos if it's straightforward).

What's Included in the Price?
A proper swing gate motor installation isn't just “bolt on a motor and go”. A good install includes:
Warranty
Most installs are completed in a few hours, depending on access and gate condition.
What Affects the Cost? (Key Factors)
These are the main things that change the price.
Gate weight & size
Heavier or larger gates need a higher-capacity motor and stronger mounting. That increases parts cost and sometimes install time.
Single vs. dual swing
Dual swing (two moving leaves) usually costs more because it’s two motors, more wiring, more programming, and more safety considerations.
Power source (mains vs solar)
If you’ve got a suitable power point nearby, mains is usually simpler. Solar can be ideal for rural/acreage properties, but panel/battery sizing and mounting adds cost.
Ground slope & hinge position
Swing gates are sensitive to geometry. Slopes, poor hinge placement, or gates that “drop” can increase labour and may require repairs before automation.
Safety devices & access control
Extras like safety beams, keypads, vehicle loops, intercoms, or smart control add cost. Some are optional; some are recommended depending on the site.
Site access & any repair work
If posts are loose, hinges are worn, or the gate is out of alignment, that needs to be fixed first. Automation won’t work properly on a gate that doesn’t swing freely.
Brand/model choice
We install Merlin and Centsys systems. Different models suit different gate weights, duty cycles, and site layouts, which changes pricing.
Single Swing vs. Dual Swing
Single swing means one moving gate leaf (the other side is fixed). It's the simpler setup and suits a lot of residential driveways.
Dual swing means both leaves open together. It's common on wider driveways and looks cleaner, but it's more complex.
Cost difference: dual swing is typically higher because it's two motors plus extra setup and programming.
Choose single swing if your layout allows it and you want the simplest option. Choose dual swing if you want both leaves automated (or you need the full opening width).
Solar Swing Gate Motors (Rural/Acreage)
Solar swing gate automation makes sense when:
- There's no mains power at the gate
- Running power would mean trenching/boring and extra electrical work
- You're on an acreage property or a long driveway (common around Logan hinterland and rural Gold Coast areas)
Typical solar pricing: $1,500–$5,000 inc GST depending on the motor, panel size, battery capacity, and site conditions.
A solar system is only as good as its sizing. If the panel/battery is undersized, you'll get flat batteries and unreliable operation. We size it based on your location, shade, and how often the gate is used.
Replacement vs. New Install
Replacing an existing swing gate motor is often cheaper than a brand-new automation install because:
- Mounting points may already exist
- Power may already be in place
- The gate may already have stops and a workable geometry
New installs can cost more if the gate needs repairs, new posts, hinge work, or power needs to be run.
Honest note: if the original motor was undersized (slow, struggling, or constantly failing), a proper replacement may cost more than a like-for-like swap — but it will last longer and work properly.
Hidden Costs to Watch
These are the common "surprise" costs people run into (with any installer):
- Gate repairs (hinges, posts, alignment, stops) — not included in a basic motor price
- Electrical work — if mains power needs to be added or upgraded, a licensed electrician may be required
- Access control upgrades — keypads, intercoms, extra remotes, safety beams, vehicle loops (optional extras)
If anything extra is needed, we'll tell you before work starts.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
Fastest way to get an accurate quote:
- Send your suburb
- Tell us if it's single or dual swing
- Send 2–3 photos (gate from the driveway, hinge/post area, and where power would come from)
If it's a repair or you're not sure what you need, we can assess the fault and quote.
Important pricing note (call-out / assessment):
- Fault diagnosis & repairs: Free assessment & quote — no call-out fee to diagnose a fault.
- Scheduled servicing & maintenance (prepaid bookings): service call-outs from $225 residential / $295 commercial inc GST, including up to the first 30 minutes onsite. Then $150/hr inc GST after the first 30 minutes (billed in 15-minute increments).
- After-hours emergency call-out: $599 inc GST (includes first 30 minutes), then $250/hr inc GST (15-minute increments). After hours: Mon–Fri 5pm–7am; Sat 4pm–Mon 7am. Subject to availability and service area.

Warranty & Long-Term Value
A swing gate motor is only as reliable as the install.
- 12-month workmanship warranty on our installs
- Manufacturer warranty on the motor (varies by model/brand)
Why installation quality matters:
- Undersized motors fail early
- Poor geometry causes binding and overload
- Messy wiring and water ingress kills electronics
If you want the motor to last, the gate has to swing freely, be aligned properly, and be set up with correct limits and safety.
Why Price Varies Between Installers
If you've had quotes all over the place, it's usually because of one (or more) of these:
- Undersized motors used to hit a cheaper price (works short-term, fails later)
- Shortcuts on setup (poor mounting geometry, rushed commissioning)
- Different inclusions (some quotes exclude safety devices or proper testing)
- Warranty and support (some installers are hard to reach once it's installed)
We're not trying to be the cheapest. We size the system properly and do a tidy, safe install so you don't get failures down the track.
